The Job Transition

It’s time to find something more lucrative and inspiring. It’s time to find a new job. If you’re still wondering about what is out there for you – it might be time to start searching. The greatest accomplishments come from listening to your intuition. So, how will you go about landing your next gig? Here are some places to start.

  1. Scour the net: You’ve got to be proactive. It is beginning to become harder and harder to find a job as the years go on. You need to be as dedicated as possible. This is the first step.
  2. Have a killer resume: Most companies (especially large ones) will discard resumes faster than you can say “Are you hiring?” Make sure your resume shows everything that you’ve been up to, and make it look professional and exciting.
  3. Save your money: This is what your parents were talking about. Put 10-20 percent of your check into savings for a nest egg that will allow you to take time off to look for a job.
  4. Network like nobody’s business: Find people on Linkedin and start networking. Linkedin will also let you know who is hiring. They cater to your expertise, so for the most part you won’t see a job opening unless it’s in your field or you are well-qualified.
  5.  Be willing to sacrifice: If you’re starting over, be mindful that you may be starting from the bottom or middle of your new career path. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Keep in mind that you are climbing to the top of your field, so you will need to build a solid foundation in order to have success.

On top of those five tips – be sure to ask yourself the following:

  1. How many hours am I looking to work a week?
  2. How important is it that I be challenged?
  3. What is the best possible work environment?
  4. Is passion important?

Finding a job can be a daunting task, but it is most certainly a step in the right direction.
