How to Save Money on Auto Repair

Having your car break down on you can really put you in a bad place--both literally and financially. Not only is it a huge inconvenience but there’s a big chance that it’ll cost you a pretty penny as well.

The best way to save money on car repairs is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Always keep up with your vehicle’s maintenance schedule. Spending a little money now can save you tons in the long run.

However, there are times when accidents or sudden breakdowns just happen, and during such instances, it’s best to do the following:

1. Check your warranty - Before you hand over your credit card, be sure re-visit your auto warranty to see which repairs are covered. You can also check for any recalls associated with your car, and if the repairs are covered, you probably won’t have to pay anything.

2. Negotiate - Haggle with your mechanic to get the lowest price possible. If you’re getting a lot of work done, ask for a price cut. You can also scout around for other repair shops and see if you can get them go on a bidding war for your business.

3. Find deals - Go online or pick up your local Penny Saver to see if any local shops are offering special promos or coupons.
