Best Places to visit in Mumbai

Unlike other tourist hotspots in India, Mumbai is not known for any major historical places of interest. There are however a lot many things to see and do in Mumbai. Some of the best places to visit in Mumbai are listed below.

Gateway of India

It is the most important landmark of Mumbai. The monument was built to honor the visit of King George V and Queen Mary. Tourists can also go for a boat ride into the Arabian Sea from the Gateway.

Kala Ghoda Art Precinct

This is the cultural center of Mumbai. The crescent-shaped area is named after the statue of a ‘black horse’ installed bang in the middle. Tourists can check out varied art galleries and museums located in the area, including the National Gallery of Modern Arts, the Jehangir Art Gallery, and the Chattrapati Shivaji Museum. The place also plays host to the 9-day long Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, every February.

Heritage Buildings

Mumbai, especially south Mumbai, is home to some really stunning and marvelous heritage buildings that are ideal examples of ornate colonial architecture. You may check out the very beautiful CST railway station, the BMC headquarters building, the Mumbai High Court, and numerous other buildings located in the Fort area. Bazaars and Markets

All the dirty laundry of Mumbai is hand-washed by washermen or dhobis in several rows of concrete trenches built at this place. The sight of thousands of dhobis standing in water for long hours beating the dirt out of tons of clothes is indeed something unique and awe-inspiring!

The Beaches of Mumbai

Two of the most well-known beaches in Mumbai are Chowpatty and Juhu Beach. Every evening thousands of tourists gather at these beaches to relax, take a stroll, or watch the sunset. The beaches also have numerous food stalls where you can taste local delicacies and snacks. Another popular hangout spot is Marine Drive, an oceanfront pavement in south Mumbai stretching over a few miles.

Bollywood

Mumbai is the hub of Bollywood, the Indian Hindi Film Industry. You can visit any of the multiplexes and catch a fascinating Bollywood movie in the cool comforts of the theater. Tourists may also head over to Film City and check out the process of filmmaking, or actually get work as an extra in a Bollywood movie!

Haji Ali

It is a mosque built in the middle of the Arabian Sea. It is also a tomb of Sufi saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. The beautiful mosque can only be accessed during times of low tide via a 500-yard narrow walkway.

Other attractions

They include ancient Buddhist caves at Elephanta Island, Kanheri Caves with Buddhist sculptures at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and the Mumbai dabbawalas at varied railway stations.
