Remembering your Happy Place at Work

If you’re in a rut at work, it’s probably because the excitement of having a brand new job has worn off. You can get that feeling back. After all, you’re doing exactly what you want to be doing in life! That should be reason enough for your happiness. If not, read on.

  1. Remember – How did you feel when you received the job offer? Were you excited for the chance to learn from your peers? Invite a few coworkers to lunch. We’re you excited about the drive? Crank up the tunes and take some time to yourself. The moral is, remember exactly what you felt in the very beginning and regain your passion.
  2. Smile – Smile until you actually start to believe that you’re happy to be there. The upside? You’ll make more friends at work. Everybody loves a happy person.
  3. Use your vacation days – Studies show that Americans do not use most of their vacation days. Use them to go home and recharge. You will have more of a desire to get back to work, and you will have more energy when you return to work.
  4. Extra Activities – Take up a hobby after work. You are not your job. Developing an interest outside of work promotes a happy life.
  5. Exit Strategy – If the above tips did not work, maybe it’s time to start thinking about the next step in your life. Your mood at work very well may be a sign that it’s time to move on and up!
